Blackberry IP Modem Installation Procedures

Requirement:

• BlackBerry HH with 1.8 or later platform
• BlackBerry Desktop Software version 3.6 version pack 3 or later
• Carrier provisioned SIM card with internet access APN for IP Modem

Installation Procedures:

1) Install the latest 4.1 desktop build
2) Install the latest 4.1 build on the HH

Note: Device needs to be connected to Desktop Manager for IP Modem functionality. This has to happen over the USB cable.

Setting up the modem

1. On the PC ensure that the USB cable is securely fastened to both the handset and the USB port.
2. Double click on the Desktop Manager icon.
3. Click on Options and then Connection Settings.
4. Click on Detect.
5. When the Warning dialog box appears, click OK.
6. The dialog box should display: USB handheld found, then click on OK.
7. Ensure that the Connection: field displays USB-PIN: XXXX and click OK again.
8. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel and then double click on the System icon.
9. Click on the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager button.
10. Click the + next to Ports (COM & LPT) and make a note of which COM port is assigned to the RIM Virtual Serial Port .
11. Return to the Control Panel and double click on the Phone and Modem Options icon.
12. Click on the Modems tab and click on Add….
13. Check Don’t detect my modem; and click on Next.
14. Click to select Standard Modem Types from the Manufacturer list and then click to select Standard 19200bps Modem from the Models list. Click on Next.
15. Click to select the COM port assigned to the RIM Virtual Serial Port and click on Next.
16. Click on Finish.
17. On the Modems tab of Phone and Modem Options, highlight the Standard 19200bps Modem and click on Properties.
18. Click on the Advanced tab and enter AT+cgdcont=1,”ip”,”APN” into the Extra initialization commands: field. Click OK.

Setting up the connection

1. On the PC, click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, and then double click on Network Connections.
2. Click on Create a new connection.
3. The New Connection Wizard window will appear, click on Next to begin the setup.
4. Tick to select Connect to the Internet and click on Next.
5. Tick to select Set up my connection manually and click on Next .
6. Tick to select Connect using a dial-up modem and click on Next.
7. Check Standard 19200bps Modem. Ensure it is the only modem checked and click on Next.
8. Type GPRS for the ISP Name and click on Next .
9. Type *99# for the Phone number and click on Next.
10. Ensure the Username and Password fields are left blank. Check to select from the available options below and click on Next .
11. Click on Finish to complete the setup.

Making the connection
1. On the PC, return to the Network Connections folder, and double click on the GPRS icon.
2. Ensure that the Username and Password fields are blank and the phone number is *99# ya da *99***1#, then click on Dial .
